Our parent company Music Together LLC began in 1985 after Ken Guilmartin, a composer, pre-school music teacher and one-man research and development team, founded the Center for Music and Young Children (CMYC) in Princeton , New Jersey. His goal was to create a parent-child music and movement experience in which children learn through playful, developmentally appropriate activities supported by parent education and materials for use at home. Ken met Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz, then a Ph.D. student at Temple University and, impressed by her innovative research on tonal and rhythm development in young children, they began to create the Music Together materials and classroom techniques first offered to the public in the fall of 1987. Now serving 2,500 communities in 40 countries, Music Together connects families across the globe.
Music Together Tri-Valley was founded in Pleasanton, CA in 1998 by director Rowena Morgan. Having taken her own infant son to classes in Cherry Hill, New Jersey during his first year in 1997 she moved to California and started her own Center. Now expanded to locations up the 680 corridor Music Together Tri-Valley has over 500 families come through its doors each session making it one of the largest centers in the Bay Area.
